The German aerosol industry slightly increased its production in 2025. According to the Industrial Association Aerosols (IGA), a total of 934 million aerosol cans were produced. This production volume was just above the previous year's figure of 932 million units. The personal care products segment, in particular, developed positively, while household aerosols recorded significant declines.

With 609 million units filled, personal care remained by far the most important market segment. This represents growth of 4.1 percent compared to 2024. The highest increases were recorded in hair foams, the production of which rose by 8.3 percent to 26 million cans. Deodorants and antiperspirants increased by 4.1 percent to 410 million units. Hair sprays and lacquers also developed positively, reaching an increase of 3.1 percent with 132 million cans.

In the household sector, the opposite trend emerged. Production fell by 14 percent to 43 million aerosol cans. The segment thus approached the 2023 level again, after having grown significantly in the previous year.

Technical sprays remain at a high level

Within the household segment, individual product groups were still able to grow. These included, in particular, air fresheners and cleaning agents for carpets, bathrooms and kitchens. The respective production quantities ranged between five and seven million units.

Technical sprays for industrial applications reached 89 million units, an increase on the previous year. Aerosol paints and lacquers largely maintained their production levels with 103 million units. Overall, however, the technically oriented product groups saw slight declines.

Metal remains the dominant packaging material

According to the IGA, glass and plastic containers continue to play only a minor role. Due to their limited significance, they are not shown separately in the production statistics. Aerosol production in Germany is therefore still almost entirely dominated by metal packaging.
