Georgia-Pacific has announced an agreement to acquire Anchor Packaging from private equity firm TJC, L.P. Anchor Packaging, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is one of the largest thermoformers in North America and produces rigid food containers and cling film for foodservice, retail and food processors. The transaction is still subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.

Anchor Packaging is best known for award-winning product developments, including Crisp Food Technologies containers, which are designed to keep food hot and crispy for a long time, and Safe Pinch and Culinary Tamper Safe packaging with tamper protection. With locations in Arkansas and Wisconsin, the company manufactures exclusively in the USA.

Georgia-Pacific sees the acquisition as a strategic addition to its consumer products division, particularly the Dixie brand. „Anchor Packaging will be a significant addition to our consumer products platform,“ explained David Duncan, Executive Vice President at Georgia-Pacific. Fernando González, President of Dixie, also emphasised the importance of the acquisition for further positioning in the food service segment.

Anchor CEO Jeff Wolff spoke of an important step for growth and innovation. The aim is to expand the product portfolio, strengthen the supply chains and further accelerate innovation.

The merger positions Georgia-Pacific more strongly in the „meals-to-go“ segment - a growth market that is served by restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores alike. The combination of established consumer brands and Anchor Packaging's speciality solutions could significantly strengthen Georgia-Pacific's market position in the food packaging segment.
