The ongoing staff shortage is putting e-commerce and fulfilment service providers under increasing pressure. Rising order numbers, short delivery times and high return rates are coming up against limited personnel resources in warehousing and dispatch. At the same time, the demand for sustainable packaging and efficient processes is growing. Oversized cartons with a high use of filling material have long been considered economically and ecologically problematic.
Against this backdrop, automated packaging solutions are becoming increasingly important. Volume reducers target the packaging process and reduce empty space and material usage. According to Heripack, manual work steps can be significantly reduced and processes stabilised - even with low staff availability.
The HVR volume reducer, which can be seen at LogiMAT 2026 in Stuttgart, is designed as a mono format solution for standardised packaging processes in which constant carton formats are used. For applications with changing product sizes, the HVR.MC-630 as a multi-format system addresses the requirements of fulfilment service providers and online retailers. Different carton dimensions can be processed without time-consuming changeovers, which supports throughput in dispatch.
In addition to reducing packaging material, the systems also help to optimise shipping volumes. Smaller parcel sizes have a direct impact on transport costs and CO₂ emissions. At the same time, staff in the packing area are relieved as manual adjustments and additional filling material steps are no longer necessary. Efficiency, sustainability and process reliability can thus be combined - a decisive factor in a market that is under high cost and time pressure.
