Mondi has produced an innovative packaging solution from brown Kraftliner with white digital printing for its long-standing customer Riedel Glas for the market launch of the „All American Bourbon“ glass series. The new packaging is not only aesthetically pleasing but also offers functional advantages.
The intricate design – with fine lines, small font sizes, and integrated QR codes – places particularly high demands on print quality. For packaging printing, Mondi relies on high-performance digital printing, currently the most flexible technology on the market. This enables the precise and consistent reproduction of complex graphic elements on brown substrates.
Advantages of digital printing
Digital printing is based on data-to-print technology and requires no printing plates or clichés. Instead, the ink is applied directly to the material in fine droplets, allowing for detailed reproduction and efficient production processes. With the recent investment in white digital printing at Mondi's Ebersdorf site in Germany, the technology now achieves high opacity with razor-sharp contours, enabling high-quality print results on brown Kraftliner.
Beyond pure print quality, data-to-print technology offers additional functional advantages. Different print images can be produced within a single order, making regional variations or target group-specific designs achievable without additional setup costs. Serialised bar or QR codes enable the unique identification of each individual package along the supply chain, improve traceability and support automated processes.
