Ecocool, specialists in refrigerated transport packaging, have acquired Kompackt61 GmbH. With this acquisition, Ecocool is expanding its portfolio of sustainable insulated packaging to include several products made from the environmentally friendly material jute.

According to Ecocool, jute-based products allow for the shipping of chilled and frozen goods with an insulating performance comparable to that of Styrofoam. The previous owner of Kompackt61, Alexandra Kletzsch, founded the company eight years ago with the aim of replacing the common material Styrofoam with a more sustainable alternative in online retail.

„We have grown dynamically in recent years and have established ourselves in the pet food sector in particular,“ says Kletzsch. „To initiate the next stage of growth, we have decided to hand over the business to Ecocool as a strong strategic partner who will drive expansion on an industrial scale.“

Alexandra Kletzsch has already had a long-standing business relationship with Ecocool through her second company, Thermapack GmbH. The partners collaborate on the sale of dry ice and cooling packs – a partnership that is now being extended to include thermal covers.

Jute as a sustainable alternative

The production facilities for jute packaging have been taken over and set up at the Ecocool site in Schiffdorf. With immediate effect, Ecocool customers can now use the full range of Kompackt61 products for shipping temperature-sensitive products, in addition to the well-known insulated packaging. The Ecocool portfolio is being expanded to include an insulated bag made of multi-layer jute natural fibres, as well as a shipping box with a jute insulating liner.

„Through the acquisition, we now have the opportunity to offer sustainable solutions for the frozen food shipping and frozen animal food (BARF). In addition, the jute products complement our paper-based solutions. We are also targeting customers from the pharmaceutical industry who are focusing on the sustainability of their packaging solutions,“ says Ecocool Managing Director Dr. Florian Siedenburg.
