The Plöckl Media Group was done as part of the Reuse & Logistics Leadership Days 2026 awarded the German Reusable Packaging Innovation Prize 2026 in Berlin. The PMG 8132 RFID label was honoured for digitised tracking and intelligent pool management of reusable packaging.
With the PMG 8132 RFID tag, Plöckl offers a way to digitally identify and track reusable bottle crates throughout the entire value chain. Each crate receives a unique digital identity, enabling automated recording during storage, transport, trade, and return. This technology not only supports increased efficiency in logistics but also the implementation of the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which demands digital traceability and unique labelling of reusable packaging.
Ecological and economic advantages
The implementation of RFID technology offers significant environmental advantages. Digital traceability can reduce the loss of reusable containers by up to 60 percent, while extending their lifespan by up to 20 percent. Furthermore, empty runs can be reduced by up to 15 percent, leading to a significant decrease in CO₂ emissions. These efficiency improvements contribute to a substantial reduction in resource and transport expenditure.
The RFID tags can be practically integrated into existing reusable containers – either protected inside a spar or unobtrusively on the inside of the container. The tag is durably resistant for all processes required in a reusable system.
„Reusable packaging is the key to a sustainable and future-proof circular economy. With our innovative RFID labels, we combine modern technology with tried-and-tested and new reusable packaging. The management of reusable pools becomes significantly more efficient and even more environmentally friendly through digital traceability.“
