40 companies have been nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2018. Five of them will be awarded main prizes in one of the five competitions at the German Sustainability Day on 8 December 2018 in Düsseldorf. Among the nominees in the „Medium-sized companies“ category is Ifco Systems GmbH, the provider of reusable packaging solutions for fresh produce that belongs to Brambles.
The German Sustainability Award is presented by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with the Federal Government, the leading municipal associations, business associations, civil society organisations and research institutions. Companies undergo a multi-stage assessment process when applying. Firstly, a management consultancy makes a pre-selection. This is followed by a presentation to an independent jury. The winners are finally chosen in September.
„The nominees in the competition show how companies not only solve problems of the future, but also turn sustainability into real competitive advantages, strong communication and satisfied employees. The award is intended to confirm and spur them on and make them recognisable like a seal of quality.“
Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, initiator of the German Sustainability Award
Ifco Systems GmbH will be presenting its „Reusable Plastic Container“ (RPC) as part of the competition. Compared to disposable packaging, RPCs produce up to 60 per cent less CO2 and up to 86 per cent less solid waste, writes the company. They also consume less energy and water and reduce product damage by up to 96 per cent. As a result, the amount of food waste is significantly reduced.
