Zanders: new fluorocarbon-free barrier paper

At FachPack 2018, Zanders will be presenting its proprietary barrier paper Zanbarrier NGR (natural grease resistant). It can be used for all flexible food packaging that requires oil and grease-resistant and wet-strength papers.

Zanders is presenting another product developed in-house at FachPack 2018: The natural barrier paper Zanbarrier NGR. Thanks to a special manufacturing process, the use of fluorocarbon or other chemicals can be completely dispensed with for its barrier function. The company will also be showcasing its versatile label paper and board range, including the high-gloss qualities of the premium brand Chromolux.

The abbreviation „NGR“ in Zanbarrier NGR stands for „natural grease resistant“, so „naturally grease-resistant“. In the special manufacturing process, the cellulose fibres are ground very finely in a very intensive grinding process over several refiner stages. This greatly increases the surface area so that the fibres absorb a lot of water and become partially gel-like. In the finished paper, the pulp fibres treated in this way form a very tight and strongly interlinked sheet structure, which provides a 100 per cent natural barrier forms.

The areas of application for the new Zanbarrier NGR are identical to those of conventional barrier papers: all flexible food packaging, that require oil and grease-resistant and wet-strength papers. These include fast food packaging such as kebab and chips bags, bread roll bags, banderoles and pizza and confectionery boxes. Samples of the barrier paper are available immediately.
