The new digital platform „MORE“ aims to help the plastics processing industry achieve the European targets for the use of recyclates in packaging production by 2025. The service offered by the European Plastics Converters' Association EuPC went live on 25 April 2019.

The Plastics strategy of the EU stipulates that by 2025, ten million tonnes of Plastic recyclate at the Packaging production are to be used. MORE is intended to help monitor and record the status of efforts.

„With the new digital platform, we now have the opportunity to present this endeavour transparently to the public and politicians in Germany and the EU. MORE also enables us to track one of IK's recycling targets: by 2025, at least one million tonnes of recycled material or renewable raw materials are to be used for the production of plastic packaging in Germany.“
Torben Knöß, responsible for MORE at the Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen (IK)

National coordinators to promote participation in MORE

The live operation of the Monitoring platform was preceded by a test phase between February and March 2019. Selected companies throughout Europe took part. A few revisions were then made. MORE is now available in the six EU countries of France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Almost half of the recyclates used in Europe are processed in these countries alone. Other EU countries are to follow in May and June, so that the entire EU will be covered by summer 2019, IK announces.

EuPC emphasises that the strong involvement of companies in MORE is important for the success of the project as well as for its credibility in the eyes of the public. In order to promote participation, national coordinators have been appointed in several countries, who are involved in the local Monitoring process with the aim of facilitating access and ensuring better coordination with national plastics processing. OEMs, brands and polymer platforms are encouraged to promote the registration of these volumes through increased collaboration in the value chain.
