What began in 1979 with 88 exhibitors and 2,000 visitors has now become the meeting place for the European packaging industry. FachPack 2019 will take place at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre from 24 to 26 September 2019. In its 40th year, everything will revolve around the key theme of „Environmentally friendly packaging“.
1,600 exhibiting companies and around 45,000 trade visitors are expected by the organisers of the NuernbergMesse GmbH to the jubileeFachPack. Trade fair director Cornelia Fehlner names the ingredients for FachPack, which has been increasingly successful since its first edition: „Its duration, always three crisp days, the almost complete range of products along the Packaging process chain - from machines and logistics, packaging materials and packaging aids to printing and finishing - as well as the attractive supporting programme with the popular lecture forums, trendy special shows and exciting award ceremonies.“
This year, guests will experience a special FachPack. This is not only due to the anniversary. The organisers have dedicated the event to the dominant theme of these times: „Environmentally friendly packaging“.
FachPack wants to give the market players at the trade fair the opportunity to present their environmentally friendly developments. „Specifically, it's about Recycled packaging, resource-saving materials, Reusable packaging and systems and new environmentally friendly processes,“ says Cornelia Fehlner, describing the areas into which the main theme has been divided. The four categories will be presented at the trade fair at the exhibition centre as well as in the Exhibitor and product database specially labelled. Visitors can thus orientate themselves better and, for example, compile a list of all companies exhibiting recycled packaging in advance of the trade fair.
Lecture forums also focus on sustainability
A major role will be played by the Focus on sustainability will also play an important role in the two lecture forums. The „PackBox“ in Hall 7 will be dedicated to this topic, especially on the first day of the trade fair. For example, the Industrial Association for Plastic Packaging (IK) presented their findings on the topic of „Eco-Design“. The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) reports on the current status of the circular economy in Europe in its country slots. The German Association of Wooden Packaging, Pallets and Export Packaging (HPE), on the other hand, will be discussing whether wood can be seen as a „climate saver“ in packaging materials and what the sustainability situation is in this regard in the „Packaging for Nature“ section.
More about packaging technology and logistics in the „TechBox“There, interested parties can also listen to a number of presentations on recycling, biodegradable packaging materials and the current technical challenges for recyclable packaging.
Last year's show, which was organised for the first time for Premium packaging will show this year that elaborate packaging and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. The products on display at the „Environmentally friendly packaging in the premium sector“ show will demonstrate how a successful brand image, first-class design and environmentally friendly packaging can be harmonised.
„Sustainability Awards“ have their premiere at FachPack
In what has become a tradition, the German Packaging Institute the FachPack for Presentation of the German Packaging Award. On the first day of the fair, the winners in the nine award categories - including sustainability, of course - will be honoured.
For the first time, however, the winners of the „Sustainability Awards“ was announced at FachPack. This prize is awarded by a British trade journal in the categories „Bio-based Packaging“, „Recyclable Packaging“ and „Best Sustainable Packaging Innovation“, among others.
