New ‚Bewusster verpackt‘ logo at Kaufland

Kaufland is now labelling own-brand products whose packaging is designed to be more sustainable with a new ‚Bewusster verpackt‘ logo.

The retail company Kaufland has set itself the target of reducing its own plastic consumption by at least 20 per cent by 2025. From now on, own-brand products whose packaging is designed more sustainably according to the company will be labelled with the new ‚Bewusster verpackt‘ logo.

The logo is intended to create more transparency for customers and signalise where plastic has been saved in packaging and the recyclability or recycled content has been increased.

The ‚Packed more consciously‘ logo is now affixed to the front or back of the packaging. This must be at least one of the following three criteria fulfil: one Recyclability of at least 80 per cent , a Recyclate content of at least 30 per cent and/or the reduction in volume or weight of the Packaging material of at least 10 per cent.

Optimise own-brand packaging

The logo is already visible on various own-brand products, such as K-Classic sunflower oil and toothbrushes, herbal baths and foot care products from the in-house drugstore brand bevola. By the end of the year, around 25 own-brand items from Kaufland carry the ‚Bewusster verpackt‘ logo.

„Environmental protection concerns us all. In particular, we need to drive forward the reduction of plastic,“ emphasises Lavinia Kochanski, Head of Sustainability at Kaufland. „As a retail company, we bear a great deal of responsibility and can make a big difference. Especially with the Packaging for our own brands We are able to react effectively and quickly as we are in close dialogue with the producers. We will manage to save over 2,000 tonnes of plastic this year. Private labels alone account for 1,700 tonnes of this.“
