At this year's „Components by Interpack 2020“ trade fair, the automation company Pilz will be focussing on flexible system solutions for packaging machines.

In addition to machine safety, the focus will also be on industrial security in packaging. The automation specialist will be focussing on safe access control. Visitors to Interpack can find out more about the extensive range of applications for the modular safety gate system in the packaging industry live on the Pilz safety gate model.

Safety all along the line

The modular safety gate system from Pilz comprises customised safety gate solutions that are optimally tailored to the requirements of a wide range of applications in the packaging industry. Different components can be combined to suit the application. The variant „Safety gate sensor PSENmlock with series connection“ offers added value in combination with the Safety Device Diagnostics solution from Pilz, particularly in the case of repeated and frequent intervention in the packaging process: the individual switches or doors of the packaging machine can be controlled in a targeted and therefore efficient manner.

Security starts with access control

Secure access management for machines and systems is also essential in the packaging industry. Automation solutions should cover this aspect. Pilz has developed the configurable secure access management system for selecting the operating mode and managing access authorisation. Small controller PNOZmulti 2 in the luggage. As a system solution, the small control unit in combination with the PITreader read-out unit of the PITmode operating mode selection and access authorisation system enables comprehensive access control and functionally secure operating mode selection. The coded RFID transponder key technology used here guarantees „secure“ traceability. In this way, the solution consisting of a small controller and operating mode selection and access authorisation system ensures packaging processes in production that are secure in terms of safety and industrial security.

Hardware for comprehensive security concepts

A customised security concept for packaging machines is necessary for optimised operation, regardless of whether primary packaging, secondary packaging or end-of-line packaging is involved. The area of industrial security is becoming increasingly important - especially the protection of sensitive data, for example to guarantee the availability of packaging machines. This requires a holistic approach with a view to the topic of Safety & Security which should be supported by suitable hardware solutions. In Düsseldorf, Pilz will be demonstrating how the SecurityBridge application firewall supports the configurable, safe small controller PNOZmulti and the PSS 4000 automation system from Pilz can protect against network-based attacks and unauthorised access, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries. This can put a stop to manipulation or external attacks on the packaging line.

Pilz will be exhibiting in Hall 18, Stand 18BO2. Further information on Pilz's trade fair appearance can be found at: http://www.pilz.com/interpack
