Innovative technical upgrades have made it possible to reduce water consumption by up to 50% on new and already installed third-generation SIG filling machines. This important step is another success on SIG's Way Beyond Good - becoming a net-positive company.
This latest water-saving innovation will be incorporated into all of SIG's new high-speed filling machines, which can fill 24,000 small format carton packs per hour. The new technology is also available on most carton fillers up to 1,100ml, which have a capacity of 12,000 cartons per hour. Most of the third-generation SIG filling machines for small and medium-sized carton packs already installed can also be equipped with a newly developed and easy-to-install water reduction conversion kit that halves water consumption.
Up to 350 litres of water per hour are saved

It remains a high priority for food and beverage manufacturers to reduce the environmental impact of their products in order to minimise their overall ecological footprint. Packaging plays an important role in the product life cycle. SIG carton packs offer demonstrable environmental benefits compared to packaging alternatives. SIG continues to work closely with customers to further reduce the impact across the entire value chain. With a reject rate of less than 0.5%, SIG's fast and efficient filling technology plays a significant role in minimising overall waste at SIG customers' plants.
„Our new water-saving technology, including the conversion kit, ensures that the water pressure is reduced, the water flows more slowly and less water is consumed. This can save up to 350 litres per hour. The savings in water consumption ensure that the new technology pays for itself in the long term - both an economic advantage and a benefit for the environment.“ Holger Schmidt, Head of Product Management Technology at SIG
Over the past two years, the technical innovations of the SIG customers in Europe to save more than 115 tonnes of CO2-emissions and 25,000 m3 save water. SIG will continue to work closely with customers to increase efficiency. As well as lowering operating costs and reducing environmental impact.
