Optimisation of packaging

Despite delays caused by the pandemic, the switch to almost plastic-free dessert packaging has already been completed, for example. The Happy Meal toys will also increasingly be packaged in paper instead of plastic in future.
Recycling beverage cups
In addition, the company is also breaking new ground in recycling: together with cre art Neidhardt Werbe GmbH McDonald's has developed a process to recycle the paper cups used for drinks and soft ice cream. The disposable cups are recycled into printable paper sheets. The brochure for this year's sustainability update is also made from this recycled paper.
As part of its sustainability strategy, McDonald's Germany has set itself the goal of cutting down on packaging - especially plastic - and reducing packaging volumes. The company is sticking to its plans in this area despite the coronavirus crisis, Only packaging made from renewable, recycled or certified material by 2025 to be used.
