The medium-sized family business Purus Plastics GmbH from Arzberg in Upper Franconia produces its own raw materials from used plastics, in particular packaging waste, and uses them to manufacture high-quality plastic pallets, among other things.
Purus Plastics receives the raw materials - pre-sorted plastic waste from private households and industrial waste - from Germany and all over Europe.
"We believe that fossil raw materials must be preserved at all costs, because it takes around 2.5 kilograms of crude oil to produce one kilogramme of plastic. That's why we are a plastics recycler that not only sells secondary raw materials, but also produces new goods from them ourselves." Thorsten ZillmannMarketing Manager at Purus Plastics.
In addition to pallets made from recycled plastic, the portfolio includes customised plastic spools for coiled goods such as cables or ropes as well as box systems in pallet format. Arzberger also produces sealing-free floor grids and plastic modules for green roofs.
Purus Plastics only uses secondary raw materials
Purus is convinced that injection moulding components from new raw materials is neither a great art nor particularly sustainable. "That's why we have consistently decided to do this, exclusively secondary raw materials and specially processed regranulates to process." To this end, the company has adapted its entire production and injection moulding process to the requirements of the materials - and has thus taken the topic of feasibility in plastics recycling to a new level over the years.

Founded 25 years ago, the medium-sized family business now employs 100 people and ten trainees. Since its foundation in 1994, the regional company has become a globally sought-after supplier of innovative and sustainable products made from secondary raw materials - with partner networks in Australia, South Korea, Chile and Canada. Thorsten Zillmann: "We feel firmly committed to Germany as a business locationWe have continuously expanded here and invested millions of euros in our plant in Arzberg. A second line for plastics processing has been put into operation and a third is in the planning stage."
One of the most modern recycling plants for used plastics in the world
And this is how Purus Plastics tonnes of regranulate every year, which is used as Raw material for the in-house injection moulding machine park is utilised. In the processing stage, the source material, for example from the Green Dot collection systems, is cleaned, sorted and regranulated. Purus has revised the entire process here and one of the world's most modern recycling plants for used plastics developed. As a result, we are now able to produce regranulates of very high purity in all required quality grades.
"Even complex products that can only be manufactured by other manufacturers using new, unprocessed granulate, known as virgin plastic, can be produced with our secondary raw material in a single step. certified and highly automated production process efficiently, economically and with consistent quality." To ensure that the quality is right, Purus regularly checks the material quality in its own and external laboratories and adjusts it if necessary using innovative compounding.
Today, plastic products made from recycled material can be sorted and processed so well that nothing stands in the way of them being reused as raw materials. According to Purus, this saves over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 one. "Products made from recyclates are not products made from waste, but absolutely comparable productsthat stand up to comparison in terms of sustainability and carbon footprint." Every product from the production Environmentally neutral and recyclableevery project is designed to be sustainable.

For the plastic pallets from Purus mean 360-degree recycling advantages over conventional wooden pallets. Among other things, they are hygienic and robust, user-friendly and can be stacked and stored in a space-saving manner. Plastic pallets can be stored for longer, as the material is resistant to moisture and other weather conditions, and offer advantages in international goods transport. "Our lightweight pallets are often used for air transport and bring Icelandic salmon, for example, to markets all over the world. Also for this reason ultralight pallets are currently among the bestsellers, just like our medium pallets."
Purus Plastics customers benefit from the comprehensive range. "We combine All steps at one locationThe company's expertise ranges from the production of raw materials through recycling to laboratory capacities for quality assurance and the manufacture of new products. This means a high degree of independence and planning security for us and our customers."
