The company W.u.H. Fernholz GmbH & Co. KG. from Meinerzhagen shows the latest development in the field of recyclable polystyrene - an important milestone in packaging and cup production.
One highlight is the Desto cup with a new type of cardboard with a recycled content of up to 90 per cent. In combination with the approximately 60 per cent lower plastic content compared to conventional cups, the producer of films and plastic packaging based in Meinerzhagen and Schkopau is committed to climate-conscious production.
The cooperation with the petrochemical company Trinseo is now also bearing fruit: the solvent-based recycled polystyrene r-PS is a joint development by the two companies to obtain the first recycling grade in the polystyrene world on a post-consumer recycling (PCR) basis. Customers now benefit from the recyclability of polystyrene, the reusability of the material and its ability to be fully recycled into its monomer components.
