The institute through the ages

In 1972, the BFSV moved from the harbour to what is now the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), which meant that the results Practical testing and research activities directly into training and further education. The close practical relevance has remained a hallmark of the BFSV ever since. The Hamburg-based organisation has also been in demand as an expert in national (DIN, DVEU, transport and insurance institutions and other networks) and international bodies (e.g. IAPRI), where it contributes its experience in research projects, books, specialist articles, trade fairs and seminars.

In December 2012, the association founded the wholly-owned, accredited subsidiary BFSV Packaging Institute Hamburg GmbH with 23 employees and significantly expanded its field of activity. The collaboration between HAW Hamburg, the BFSV association and the GmbH Verpackungsinstitut Hamburg has also created the opportunity to develop a modern Master's degree programme „Packaging Technology and Logistics“ with the focus on Export packaging at the HAW Hamburg.

The field of transport packaging testing, which has grown continuously since the company was founded, now consists of state-of-the-art Test equipment for packaging materials, especially corrugated board, and package testing.
