Following the guiding principle of „Reduce, Reuse, Recycle“, Greiner Packaging is presenting its latest product developments from these three areas at Fachpack. Food packaging made of r-PET and the self-separating cardboard-plastic cup K3 r100 will be at the forefront.
With the purchase of its first recycling company - the Serbian r-PET flakes producer Alwag - and associated with the entry into the recycling business Greiner Packaging has taken an important step on its path to a sustainable future. The Serbian site, which from now on will operate under the name Greiner Recycling d.o.o, secures important material flows for the company and emphasises its commitment to promoting a sustainable circular economy.
Greiner Packaging recognises the potential of recyclable PET and has set itself the goal of developing a new recycling system alongside the already well-functioning bottle stream, to drive forward the development of a PET tray-to-tray recycling stream. The step of backward integration represents an important milestone on this path.
At Fachpack, the company will be presenting packaging solutions made from up to 100 per cent r-PET that have already been successfully implemented and will be showing what the food packaging of the future could look like - whether for salads, spreads, ready meals or even dairy products. With the help of the temperature-stable material r-PET HTS in the future, even the use of
r-PET is possible for products that require hot sterilisation.

The cup that separates itself
An innovation that can fulfil two Rs - Reduce and Recycle - is the self-separating cardboard-plastic combination K3 r100: the cardboard wrap that gives the thin-walled plastic cup stability, Separates itself from the plastic cup during the waste collection process off. Cardboard and plastic can therefore be allocated to the correct material streams during the initial sorting process, i.e. before the packaging even arrives at the recycling plant. This innovation significantly increases the recyclability of cardboard-plastic combinations.
Reuse what can be used several times
In a dedicated reuse area at Fachpack, the plastics experts will be showcasing a range of sustainable packaging solutions that will be reuse-capable. This area is booming and is increasingly in demand, especially among consumers. For example, the company is presenting „Reuse Drinking Cups“ and „Reuse Bowls“, specially created for reusable systems and are suitable for both cold and hot drinks or food at any temperature.
