Coveris closes the plastic loop with ReCover

With ReCover, the Coveris Group is tapping into a new business segment and bundling all steps of waste procurement and processing as well as plastics recycling.

The Coveris Group is bundling all steps of waste procurement and processing as well as plastics recycling into a new business segment. With ReCover, the company is thus closing the plastics loop.

In future, ReCover will operate as an independent company and supply Coveris sites and third-party customers on an independent basis with recyclates of a quality that was previously not available on the market.

As part of its sustainability strategy Coveris has set itself the goal of avoiding waste in all its forms. Expanding recycling capacities and options is the next step in recycling waste and thus also supporting customers on their path to sustainability.

„With ReCover, we are launching a process that is unique in the entire packaging industry. With several important projects in the pipeline, we want to establish an independent business unit dedicated entirely to the circular economy over the next few years. ReCover is therefore a platform for all activities in the field of mechanical recycling. As part of ReCover, we will also drive forward our development of food-compliant materials.“ Jakob A. Mosser, CEO Coveris

In order to further expand its recycling capacities Coveris recently acquired the site and facilities of Capital Valley Plastics (CVP) Blaenavon in Wales, UK. CVP is an established PE recycler that processes post-consumer and post-industrial waste through mechanical recycling and primarily produces construction film from it. The Blaenavon site is equipped with the latest recycling technology and has an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes.

„The newly acquired site and the facilities in Blaenavon will an important recycling centre for the Films and Flexibles divisions of Coveris which closes the plastic loop for customers and for all our production cities. The acquisition is the perfect start for ReCover. It is a milestone in our endeavour to continuously improve the recycling offer for our customers, to enable a true circular economy and to get closer to our ‚No Waste‘ vision,“ says Mosser.
