After the Hamburg-based Stern-Wywiol Gruppe was unable to find well-equipped, flexible contract manufacturers for its range of powdered foods, supplements and food additives, even after a long search, it founded its own contract manufacturing service, SternMaid, in 1996.

SternMaid's greatest strengths lie in the reliable, customer-oriented realisation of projects that require high quality standards, which is also guaranteed by the FSSC 22000 food management system introduced in 2015 and the audited HACCP concept.

Typical products include food additives such as enzymes, baking premixes, hydrocolloids, stabilisers, minerals and nutrient-rich lifestyle and health products such as diet drinks and soups, lactose, whey drinks, protein supplements, beverage powders and sports nutrition, as well as pharmaceutical excipients.

Thanks to the existing different small packaging machines the products can also be filled into smaller packaging units. The small packaging systems are fed directly from big bags or from sacks, boxes or drums.
To ensure that orders are processed quickly and on time, a new mixing department for product tests, trial and commercial production mixes was also installed in the new Plant II.
