The Federal Ecodesign Award has been organised annually since 2012. Companies, design agencies, start-ups and students with prototypes or market-ready products and services can apply again this year. The application deadline is 10 April 2017.
The Federal Ecodesign Award is presented in four categories „Product“, „Concept“, „Service“ and „Young talent“ awarded.
Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks: „We can make many of our everyday products and services much more sustainable. This means that a chair, a pair of glasses or a tool should not ‚only‘ be more ecological, but should also be easy to use or wear. This is the basic theme of the Federal Ecodesign Award. All designers are invited to apply. Good ideas for Durable, resource-saving products We still need a lot more.“
Evaluation by criteria matrix
An interdisciplinary jury selects the nominees and award winners in September. The pre-selection is made by a Expert panel of the UBA and the project advisory board. The assessment is based on a criteria matrix developed jointly by the BMUB, UBA and the International Design Centre Berlin (IDZ). In each case, the focus is on the entire life cycle of a product - from the idea through production to the question of how the product can be recycled or disposed of.
„What makes this design award so special are aesthetically convincing design proposals for the ecological challenges of our time. Once again this year, we hope to see sustainably designed products with a long lifespan, new concepts for sharing and exchanging as well as services that make living, shopping or travelling more environmentally friendly,“ explained Maria Krautzberger, President of the Federal Environment Agency.
The winners and nominees will be honoured on 27 November 2017 at the award ceremony at the Federal Ministry for the Environment and will be presented in a travelling exhibition at trade fairs and museums in the following year. For Students attracts a Prize money in the amount of €1,000 per prize. The exhibition of the award winners and nominees from 2016 opens on 20 March 2017 in Ludwigsburg. The exhibition will be accompanied by workshops and events.
