German Sustainability Award 2023 - finalists have been announced

This year, the German Sustainability Award is also honouring companies in the packaging and recycling industry. These are the finalists for the award ceremony at the end of November.

This year, the German Sustainability Award is once again deliberately honouring companies in the packaging and recycling industry. The jury has now selected the finalists for the award ceremony at the end of November. 

The makers of the German Sustainability Award (DNP) this year. As there are successful concepts for greater sustainability in all sectors, the award should now be extended more widely. This is why the award is honouring companies from 100 different sectors for the first time this year. 

One of these sectors is - and this is only logical - packaging. We are looking for the frontrunners in smart, environmentally and climate-friendly packaging solutions. 

Packaging is a key topic at the German Sustainability Award

During his visit to the packaging journal TV studio at interpack, DNP founder Stefan Schulze-Hausmann had already announced that he would make packaging one of the key themes of the prestigious sustainability award.

These are the finalists

The finalists have now been decided. There was a separate expert jury for the packaging industry, which included Kim Cheng as President of the German Packaging Institute e.V. and environmentalists such as Tom Ohlendorf, Senior Manager Circular Economy at WWF have been sitting.

The following companies have qualified for the final in the packaging category at the end of November: 

By participating in the nationwide reusable deposit system Recup and Rebowl, BioMarkt Verbund aims to promote sustainable reusable solutions.

reCup GmbH

RECUP and REBOWL is Germany's largest reusable system for coffee-to-go and take-away food and is also an uncomplicated, sustainable and attractive alternative to disposable packaging. Founded in 2016, the company is convinced that thinking and operating in cycles is the principle of the future - with durable products that can ultimately be recycled and reused.

BAYONIX

The Bavarian company BAYONIX produces recyclable packaging and items for the food industry. The innovative material is free from harmful substances, recyclable without loss and completely biodegradable. The BAYONIX® BOTTLE has been awarded “GOLD” level according to the Cradle to Cradle Certified® product standard - and even „PLATINUM“ in the area of material health.

Superseven GmbH - Repaq

Repaq's home-compostable certified zero-waste film packaging for food replaces plastic and thus prevents microplastics, reduces CO2 emissions and closes the biological raw material cycle. In this way, Repaq helps companies to achieve the SDGs and Paris climate targets. In nature, the material dissolves by itself within a maximum of 180 days.

This year, the German Sustainability Award also honours the pioneers of the circular economy. In this category, the Interzero Circular Solutions Germany GmbH , Remondis and the Berliner Stadtreininigungsbetriebe BSR nominated. 

The publication of the winners is expected to take place on 31 October 2023 as part of a special DNP supplement in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and other measures.

Guest on Thursday, the 23 November 2023, During the day at the congress and in the evening at the awards ceremony in the Maritim Hotel: the CEOs and sustainability managers of the 100 pioneering companies from all sectors, Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, Federal Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, other prominent speakers, guests of honour from business and civil society and around 120 media representatives.
