Pallets from the furnishing company JYSK were previously closed with plastic film at the top. In order to save plastic and costs, the company is now using pallet lids and aims to save 920 tonnes of plastic per year.
The furnishing company JYSK is continuing its activities to become more sustainable and will no longer cover pallets with plastic film in future, which saves 920,000 kilograms of plastic per year. Most logistics centres have already implemented this change in pallet repackaging and found a smart replacement.
„This project is another step towards a more sustainable future for JYSK. Previously, we wrapped all pallets with plastic film around the top, but thanks to packaging optimisation, this will no longer be needed as often in the future. For those stores that may still need such protection, we have developed a reusable cover.“
Michael Olesen, Retail Operational Manager at JYSK
The purpose of the upper plastic cover was to protect the respective goods from the weather; however, the vast majority of pallets are stored directly in the stores. On rare occasions, pallets may need to be left outside for a period of time and this is where the stores can use the new covers. An international team from various JYSK countries developed a smart design of the covers for practical implementation and easy handling. The covers were then tested in selected stores. 755 JYSK stores have already received their new covers, while another 100 stores have placed orders. In addition to the The changeover also brings financial savings while protecting the environment with it. And as an additional benefit, the new initiative also increases the work efficiency of employees in the logistics centres.
„It saves them time and creates a better working environment, which is always a plus.“
