DS Smith has developed a new, fibre-based packaging for the Philips Baristina coffee machine in collaboration with household appliance manufacturer Versuni. This solution is made entirely from corrugated cardboard and is completely recyclable.

A special feature of the packaging is that no plastic is used, which reduces the ecological footprint. In addition, an anti-scratch coating has been integrated to protect the surface of the coffee machine from damage. The development of the packaging was the result of close Collaboration between the design teams of both companies.

„We are proud of the fully recyclable packaging solution. Consumer trends and expectations are fast-moving. In line with the desire for sustainable packaging, we developed this product solution with the aim of creating a high-quality visual impact on the shelf and online. In line with our company purpose to redefine packaging for a changing world, we also worked closely with our customer on this project to support them in their transition to a circular economy.“

These include recyclability, reusability and efficiency in the supply chain. The results of this analysis show how well a packaging design fulfils the requirements of the circular economy and indicate where improvements can be made.
