Henkel Adhesive Technologies has developed a heat-seal coating for primary and secondary packaging that is fully recyclable and fulfils high safety standards thanks to the use of harmless ingredients.
Whether cornflakes, detergents or medicines: primary and secondary packaging protect products from environmental influences. Today, manufacturers pay particular attention to Coating solutions with sustainable ingredients. The requirements are therefore high. More and more companies from the food and non-food industries are demanding a solution that enables packaging to be recycled and reduces plastic waste in the value chain. At the same time, safety plays an important role, why the solution should contain safe chemicals and therefore also be suitable for food packaging. To meet these requirements, Henkel has launched the Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE heat-seal coating.
The recipe contains Only ingredients classified as harmless and is Free from substances of concern such as mineral oils, so that it can be used without any problems for sealing primary packaging with direct food contact. Under certain conditions, Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE is suitable for the manufacture of food packaging materials in accordance with the applicable FDA and EC regulations and BfR recommendations.
New solution enables sustainable packaging design
With Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE, Henkel is focussing on sustainability. The recyclability of the product has been proven by accredited testing institutes. In addition, it offers opportunities for sustainable packaging design by minimising the use of recycled materials in both primary and secondary packaging. Paper instead of plastic can be used. This is made possible by its compatibility with the recycling process: The solution can be can be easily integrated into the paper conversion process and can replace PE and PE coex paper.
Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE supports the reduction of plastic packaging without sacrificing performance and production efficiency. It has very good sealability against itself and against paper, while the low sealing initiation temperature ensures greater efficiency. In addition, Loctite Liofol HS 2819 RE on both flexo and gravure presses for a wide range of paper packaging solutions and guarantees maximum strength even at high machine speeds.
