Plant drinks in beverage cartons without aluminium

Beverage producer García Carrión packs plant-based drinks aluminium-free in the Pure-Pak eSense carton from Elopak, which uses a polyolefin layer. 

Spanish drinks producer García Carrión is the first company in the world to pack plant-based drinks in the aluminium-free Pure-Pak eSense carton from Elopak. Instead of an aluminium barrier, a layer of polyolefins is used. 

The Don Simón brand was launched on the Spanish market in 1980 and is now one of the country's leading beverage brands. With the current launch, Don Simón is responding to the increasing demand for products that are not only good for your health, but also good for the environment. The Don Simón beverage carton uses a closure is used, which is based on renewable PE from tall oil. So that reduces the CO2-footprint by a total of 40 per cent compared to a standard Pure-Pak aseptic carton.

The market launch will be accompanied by a digital campaign: by scanning a QR code on the beverage carton, consumers can access a App that provides information about the special features of the aluminium-free Pure-Pak eSense packaging in a fun way. Participants can collect points, win prizes and share content via social media.

The drinks carton for Don Simón consists of unbleached, natural brown board and has a cap made from renewable, wood-based raw materials. The cartons are also certified climate-neutral and bear the CarbonNeutral logo. The plant-based drinks have been available in Spain in soya, soya light, soya chocolate, almond, rice and oat varieties since November 2022.
