The demand for sustainable packaging solutions in the pharmaceutical industry is growing steadily, particularly in the area of temperature-controlled deliveries. Cold Chain Technologies (CCT) is responding to this trend and has announced that it will now also offer its EcoFlex range of reusable packaging in Europe. This expansion is supported by a hub-based operating model and dedicated centres of excellence.

EcoFlex has been specifically developed for the regional and last-mile pharmaceutical distribution. Customers benefit from a leasing model that not only reduces the cost per use but also minimises storage requirements while supporting sustainability goals. According to CCT, the EcoFlex range can reduce the use of fossil fuels by up to 60 per cent compared to traditional packaging. This aids organisations in minimising waste and CO₂ emissions, as well as optimising packaging and freight processes.

Support through digital tools

CCT, with its ReNew programme, offers a comprehensive support system that simplifies returns and reverse logistics management, providing tracking and security throughout the usage, return, and refurbishment cycle. These services are complemented by a range of digital tools, including data-driven models and predictive technologies, enabling users to reduce costs, risk, and environmental footprint.

European Expansion and Infrastructure

In Europe, the EcoFlex capability is supported by operational coverage in the UK, the Netherlands and Ireland, allowing customers to deploy reusable packaging reliably at scale with the necessary service infrastructure. This expansion follows the integration of Tower Cold Chain into CCT's global network following its acquisition in 2024. The expanded infrastructure footprint encompasses three global centres of excellence and 21 European hubs across eleven countries.

Kristian Williams, Senior Director of Sales – EMEA at Cold Chain Technologies, emphasises that the expansion of the EcoFlex offering in Europe enables customers to benefit from a more integrated reusable solution and service model to improve performance in their cold chain. David Webber, Senior Global Marketing Manager at CCT, adds that EcoFlex represents a new level of reusability for temperature-controlled shipping solutions and offers a robust thermal packaging solution that minimises the need for payload intervention and simplifies packing and unpacking.
