The dual system RKD Recycling Kontor Dual will cease operations on 31 March 2019. This has unpleasant consequences for companies that have contracts with RKD to participate in the dual system.

With the Cessation of operations is a reaction to the „upheavals in the dual systems market“, announced the Cologne-based company Recycling Kontor, the operator of RKD with. „The last sales season and the first quarterly report of the new year have shown that competition between the operators of the dual systems is increasingly developing into a highly speculative price war,“ RKD Managing Director Dr Florian Dühr „In future, the market will be dominated by waste disposal groups and large food retailers. The intended increase in security services also leaves little room for manoeuvre for medium-sized providers.“

Contracts with industry and trade will be fulfilled by the end of March

By the end of March, RKD will have finalised the contracts with industry and trade regarding participation in the Dual system the waste management company emphasises. Customers will be offered a follow-up solution „that ensures a smooth and unbureaucratic transition to another dual system.“ As of the second quarter, customers who were previously bound to RKD will have to commission another of the eight remaining dual systems to fulfil the Disposal and recycling obligations, resulting from the Packaging Act to instruct the customer.

Similarly, RKD will also honour its contracts with the Waste management by the end of March, according to the announcement. From the second quarter of this year, the disposal costs will then be divided among the other dual systems. „RKD's regulated exit from the dual waste management system means that there will be no unpaid bills on the part of local authorities and the waste management industry,“ it says.

Recycling Kontor will now reposition itself strategically. The offer for Disposal of transport packaging is to be expanded. Customers from industry and trade will also be offered solutions for the Commercial Waste Ordinance, digitalisation and increasing the recyclability of packaging. Recycling Kontor wants to offer itself as a neutral consultant to customers of other dual systems.
