With the acquisition of a Serbian-based manufacturer of PET flakes, Greiner Packaging expands its company portfolio and brings the first recycler into the group of companies.
The purchase of ALWAG reflects the comprehensive sustainability efforts of Greiner Packaging according to the company in a press release. With the purchase of the PET flakes manufacturer, Greiner Packaging is continuing its expansion course of recent years and consistently pursuing its comprehensive goals in terms of the circular economy.
With the takeover of ALWAG, Greiner Packaging now has a total of three sites in Serbia - one recycling company and two production sites.

Existing customers will continue to be supplied
ALWAG currently supplies its material to customers throughout Europe. In coordination with these customers and through a planned expansion of recycling capacities at the site, the flakes will gradually be made available to Greiner Packaging applications and incorporated into their packaging. Existing ALWAG customers will continue to be reliably supplied with the usual quantities of recycling material.
In order to integrate recycled PET into the packaging, the PET flakes are extruded and then thermoformed. In future, applications in the field of injection moulding are also being considered.
