The Jokey Group and Zentek are further expanding their closed-loop partnership for non-food packaging. Used PP packaging buckets are taken back, recycled, and reintroduced into new packaging solutions as high-quality recyclates.
For four years, both partners have been working within the closed-loop system to recycle used polypropylene (PP) packaging buckets and use them as high-quality recyclates in new packaging solutions. The closed-loop system has proven to be a technically reliable and economically viable approach for returning used plastic packaging to the circular economy.
Zentek organises the take-back, sorting and material recycling of packaging, while Jokey uses the recovered PP recyclates in new products. The quality of the recyclates depends significantly on the purity of the returned packaging. „If packaging buckets are returned clean enough to be scraped out, the loop works optimally,“ state the partners' shared experience. Remaining residual contents, on the other hand, make recycling more difficult.
Clearance to the last mile
Jokey and Zentek are taking a holistic approach that goes beyond just the process chain. They are addressing not only direct customers but also commercial end-users, trade businesses, and processors along the „last mile.“ Through training, information materials, and direct exchange, they explain why clean, emptied packaging is crucial and how simple return processes can be designed.
In view of regulatory requirements and increasing demand for recyclates, both partners plan to further expand the system. The aim is to gradually extend the closed loop for non-food packaging, involve further user groups, and scale up the use of high-quality recyclates.
