Leibinger will showcase innovative approaches to marking technology at interpack 2026 that support the transition to 2D codes and reduce operating costs.
Packaging manufacturers face the challenge of ensuring the highest reliability and consistent print quality in their day-to-day operations. The transition to 2D codes presents an additional challenge that requires new solutions. Leibinger has embraced this challenge and is investing in the development of new approaches. At interpack 2026, the company will showcase how measurable added value for customers is created through innovative marking technologies. These include seamless line processes, low maintenance requirements, future-proof code structures, and low total cost of ownership.
Challenges of 2D migration
A key theme is the transition from 1D barcodes to GS1 2D codes, known as the 2D migration (GS1 Sunrise 2027). Leibinger is actively supporting this transformation and invites visitors to discuss requirements and practical implementation. A significant challenge lies in reliably printing high-quality, scannable 2D codes on various materials, particularly in view of the Digital Product Passport. These codes are compact, data-rich, and often contain variable data, which increases the demands on printing precision and process stability.
Technological innovations
In the CIJ market, Leibinger stands for the fully automatic nozzle seal, which prevents ink from drying out. This allows for immediate startup without routine cleaning. An innovative double-chamber print tank system ensures continuous flow with constant pressure and consistent viscosity. These technologies extend the life of the pump and save energy, which reduces operating costs.
A comprehensive ink portfolio
Leibinger offers around 70 ink solutions for diverse requirements. The portfolio is continuously growing, currently with new shades such as purple and brown for various materials. Successful marking is the interplay of printer technology and ink, optimally matched to the material to be printed, the line speed, and the production environment.
Digitalisation and interactive solutions
At interpack 2026, labelling becomes interactive: visitors can try out the new Leibinger PrintDesigner for themselves and create print orders via a mobile device. Leibinger will demonstrate how this integrates into a digital platform that provides a real-time overview of the printing fleet. A particular highlight is the ability to print personalised giveaways directly on site.
