Some of the biggest players in the global packaging industry announced on Wednesday the establishment of a fund focussing on sustainable packaging. Founding investors in the fund, which is managed by the Swiss capital company Emerald Technology Ventures, include Beiersdorf and Henkel.
In view of the fact that rapid growth is expected in the global packaging sector and the focus is on reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions, the fund aims to achieve this, according to the capital company, to drive forward the development of advanced materials and industrial technologies that both benefit the environment and generate attractive returns.
Investments in more than 50 companies
The industrial and consumer goods groups Beiersdorf, Chevron, Handle and Waste Management will join the fund as founding investors, which emphasises the fund's broad reach in the packaging sector. More than 50 global companies are planning to invest in the packaging sector, ranging from raw materials to end-of-life and plastics recycling.
The new fund aims to invest in young and fast-growing start-ups around the world, with a certain number of seed investments. Investors can join the fund at any time. The interdisciplinary team behind the fund will report regularly on the progress made by the companies in the portfolio in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
