ProAmpac, a global provider of flexible packaging solutions, has acquired the pouch and bag converting operations of International Paper. The acquisition strengthens the company's capabilities in the area of paper-based packaging.
The acquisition includes sites in California, Oregon and Texas that specialise in the production of high-quality kraft paper bags for retailers, petrol stations and fast-food restaurants. These include carrier bags with handles, self-opening bags and smaller formats. According to ProAmpac CEO Greg Tucker, the acquisition supports the company's „fibreisation of packaging“ strategy and enables it to better meet the growing demand for reliable, recyclable paper packaging.
International Paper also emphasised the strength of its existing pouch business, which is built on sustainability and reliability and will remain successful in the long term under ProAmpac's leadership. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Expansion of paper-based packaging solutions
With this step, ProAmpac is strengthening its position in the growing market for fibre-based packaging, which is benefiting from increasing sustainability requirements and regulatory requirements. The company is thus continuing its strategy of diversifying its product portfolio through targeted acquisitions and expanding its production capacities in North America.
