InnoRecycling and RecyPac agree letter of intent

InnoRecycling AG and RecyPac have signed a memorandum of understanding to further standardise and strengthen the collection and recycling of plastic packaging and beverage cartons in Switzerland.

InnoRecycling AG and the industry organisation RecyPac have signed a declaration of intent to further standardise and strengthen the collection and recycling of plastic packaging and beverage cartons in Switzerland.

The cooperation aims to better dovetail the existing collection systems and organise the recycling of plastics and beverage cartons more efficiently. RecyPac is establishing a standardised nationwide collection system and has introduced the RecyBag, which is now used by over 1.4 million people. As part of the InnoWay group of companies, InnoRecycling already processes RecyPac's collected materials and produces more than 20,000 tonnes of regranulate in Eschlikon every year. Together with other providers in the Swiss Plastic Recyclers Association, both organisations have also decided on „permeability“, which enables collection bags to be returned to all collection points regardless of where they were purchased.

InnoRecycling plans to join RecyPac

In view of the new Packaging Ordinance, InnoRecycling has announced that it will become a member of RecyPac. The company wants to focus more on sorting and recycling in future, while RecyPac offers a follow-up solution for the existing Bring Plastic Back collection system in the form of the RecyBag. According to Kathrin Amacker, President of RecyPac, the collaboration should help to speed up standardised collection throughout Switzerland and increase convenience for consumers. Markus Tonner, Managing Director of InnoRecycling, emphasises that the strategic development will enable the group to free up resources for the construction of a sorting plant.

Next step: realisation of the common goals

The declaration of intent is seen as an important step towards a functioning material cycle in Switzerland. Both partners now want to work out the details of the collaboration and present a feasible solution in the near future to support the ambitious recycling quotas by 2030.
