A bridge builder in the packaging supply chain is retiring: The German Packaging Institute (dvi) has now bid farewell to Winfried Batzke after 22 years working for the packaging industry network.
The board, management and team of the dvi thanked Winfried Batzke for his formative work, in particular for his 20 years as managing director and his most recent role as senior consultant. Batzke joined the dvi in 2003 and took over the management of the packaging industry network founded in 1990, continuously expanding the dvi's range of services in the years that followed.
Milestones from two decades
Under the management of Winfried Batzke, the German Packaging Congress established itself as the leading platform for dialogue and future issues in the industry. The German Packaging Award developed into Europe's largest showcase for packaging and the Dresden Packaging Conference became a fixed date for the industry as an annual class reunion.
In 2005, under Winfried Batzke, the dvi initiated the Packaging Academy, which has been strengthening training and further education in the industry with courses and seminars ever since. Numerous other initiatives followed: the first innovation and expert forums, PackVision as a cooperation project between companies and young students in 2011, the Packaging Day as a flagship event for the packaging industry in 2015 on the initiative of the then dvi Executive Board, and the Student Day, which was launched in 2017 under the dual management of Winfried Batzke and Kim Cheng as a central event for young talent.
After twenty years as Managing Director, Batzke moved to the role of Senior Consultant in 2024. In this role too, his open, engaging and connecting manner brought people and companies together along the entire supply chain and engaged them in an open, goal-oriented dialogue.
