Schreiner MediPharm has further developed its needle protection system Needle-Trap: The label with integrated needle trap is now also available for large-volume syringes. The product will be presented for the first time at Pharmapack in Paris.
The market for biologics and biosimilars is growing and presents the pharmaceutical industry with new challenges - also in terms of packaging and application safety. Schreiner MediPharm has therefore further developed its proven needle protection system Needle-Trap. The innovation: the integrated needle trap can now also be used for large-volume syringes with a capacity of up to 5 ml - an important step for modern injection solutions, which are increasingly in demand as a result of highly viscous biologics.
Solution for high-volume applications
Biopharmaceutical active ingredients are characterised by larger molecular structures and higher viscosities, which requires the use of syringes with larger filling volumes. At the same time, safety mechanisms such as needle protection systems must function reliably - both in pharmaceutical production and when used by healthcare professionals or patients.
This is where the new generation of Needle-Trap comes in: It is compatible with 2.25 ml, 3 ml and 5 ml syringes and has been specifically tailored to technical and practical requirements in terms of design and function. The needle protection can be activated manually after the injection and fixes the needle securely in the label - without any additional components or aids.
Process integration and sustainability
The further development is not only impressive in terms of functionality, but also on the process side: pharmaceutical companies can apply the labels to conventional dispensing systems so that existing packaging processes remain unchanged. The outer packaging does not need to be adapted either.
Another advantage is sustainability: the compact design reduces material usage and CO₂ emissions compared to traditional protective mechanisms such as auto-injectors or plastic caps. At the same time, there is less packaging waste, which is not only an ecological advantage, but also a logistical one - for example during transport or in the cold chain.
Regulatory compliance
In addition to its sustainable focus, the system also supports the increased requirements for patient safety. The manual mechanism is intuitive and reduces the risk of needlestick injuries, for example in home use. Its reliable function has been proven in extensive product tests, as has its ability to be integrated into industrial production processes.
Schreiner MediPharm will be presenting Needle-Trap for large-volume syringes for the first time at Pharmapack, which takes place in Paris from 21 to 22 January. At stand 4B18, trade visitors will gain detailed insights into the further development of the needle protection system and the entire portfolio of multifunctional speciality labels for the pharmaceutical industry. Schreiner MediPharm will be demonstrating how innovative labelling solutions can make an important contribution to greater safety, sustainability and efficiency in the pharmaceutical supply chain.
