Heinz-Glas has inaugurated a new electric glass melting furnace at its Kleintettau site. With an investment amounting to approximately 13 million euros, the group is further expanding its German production site, according to its own statements, and simultaneously continuing its course towards fully electric glass melting.

According to the company, the construction of the bath took around 14 weeks. During this period, the old plant was first drained and cooled down, then dismantled and demolished, before the new melting bath was erected and tempered.

The scale of the project is also evident in the volume of materials used and moved. According to Heinz-Glas, 400 tonnes of refractory material, as well as 250 tonnes of glass, steel, and other materials, were removed and transported out within six days. During the construction of the new tank, 450 tonnes of refractory material were transported and installed within 30 days.

During the inauguration ceremony, the management thanked the departments involved and external companies for the project's implementation.

„A tub construction is always a major undertaking that can only be managed together. I am proud that we have successfully completed this project and that production with the new tub has already begun. My thanks go to everyone who contributed!“

Fully electric melting at German sites

According to the company, the new furnace melts glass fully electrically using CO2-free electricity. Heinz-Glas also points out that since 2024, only fully electric glass melting furnaces have been in operation at its German production sites.

This places the investment within a broader modernisation of melting technology. For the glass packaging industry, the switch to electric melting furnaces is particularly relevant with regard to energy consumption and emissions. In Kleintettau, Heinz-Glas is now continuing on this path with another major investment.
