The Schmersal Group has developed and realised safety solutions adapted to new automation concepts. At this year's interpack, it will be using a virtual packaging line to demonstrate how innovative safety technology components and systems can be combined to create holistic solutions specifically for the tasks of the packaging industry.

The digital transformation and trends such as globalisation and individualisation are placing new demands on packaging production and on filling and packaging companies. This requires completely new concepts for functional machine safety.

Industry 4.0

The new Safety installation systems from Schmersal fulfil the core requirements of Industry 4.0, such as the passive distribution module PDM, the passive field box PFB and the active input expansions SRB-E. They offer significantly more diagnostic information and maximum flexibility. This means that Various electronic safety switching devices such as sensors and guard locking devices can be mixed and connected in the respective application.

Different machine areas often have to be protected with different safety switches, especially in larger systems. The passive installation systems can also be optionally equipped with a „Serial Diagnostics“ (SD) interface for the transmission of non-safe data. Safety sensors and solenoid interlocks equipped with an SD interface can thus transmit extensive diagnostic data to a controller in series connection via the SD gateway and a fieldbus. This enables rapid troubleshooting. Overall, the safety installation systems enable simple, fail-safe and cost-effective installation of safety switching devices, especially for complex machines and systems.
