The Sales growth was primarily generated abroad. The figures there rose by 8.4 per cent, while they remained constant in Germany. Sales of bottles for non-alcoholic beverages such as Water, juices and milk. The Glass packaging action forum explains this with the warmer than average summer, which has led to more dry consumer throats.
Optimistic outlook for the second half of the year
Even with Beer and spirits The growth rate of 3.8 per cent was above average. The segment Wine and sparkling wine, on the other hand, reported stable sales figures.
Sales of glass packaging for the food industry rose only slightly, by 1.5 per cent. Fruit, vegetables and preserves. By contrast, manufacturers of other glass food packaging sold 3.1 per cent more.
Dr Johann Overath, Managing Director of the Federation of the German Glass Industry, expects the growth trend to continue for the rest of the year: „We are optimistic about the second half of 2018, as the trend for glass packaging among consumers remains unbroken.“ In this context, the action forum refers to the good environmental properties of glass packaging. They are made from raw materials that are found in nature and can often be sourced locally. Glass is also 100 per cent recyclable.
