In the face of advancing digitalisation, the basis of sustainable logistics is data-based collaboration between all divisions. Schrauben-Jäger AG from Landsberg, one of the leading wholesalers for fastening and fixing technology, therefore relies on an innovative concept: the shipping system (HVS32) from Heidler Strichcode GmbH, Wolfschlugen.
The perfectly orchestrated solution consists of modular and multi-client-capable software for the Outgoing goods logistics in combination with two customised hardware solutions for the Incoming goods. Since using the shipping system, the company has benefited from efficient shipping thanks to automated processes, simple tracking and almost automatic completion of item master data on receipt of goods through (simultaneous) volume and weight recording using the ProductCube LightGrid and CartonCube solutions. This results in transparency and integration with ERP/WMS Administrative processing times reduced by up to 90 per cent and a Significantly lower error rate.

100,000 articles under control
The Schrauben-Jäger AG is one of the largest specialists in fasteners and fastening technology as well as C-parts management solutions. The company's product range comprises over 100,000 items. The company also offers services in the procurement and production of drawing-relevant parts, special materials or special designs as well as coating processes and surface finishes. Schrauben-Jäger also offers services in the field of KANBAN supply systems.
The portfolio of the company, which was founded in 1956, is complemented by the range of products and services offered by its sister companies Werkzeug-Jäger GmbH and Jäger-Fluid GmbH supplemented. In total, around 300 employees of Schrauben-Jäger AG and Werkzeug-Jäger GmbH supply customers and partners from the trade and industry sectors with customised products and services at the main site in Karlsruhe and at the branches in Illingen, Landsberg, Maulburg, Viernheim and Willstätt.

Efficient logistics requires precise planning, which in turn relies on sound data. „It is not always easy to Complete article master data to get to it,“ says Claudia Schneider. The HVS32 met all the target requirements of Schrauben-Jäger AG and Werkzeug-Jäger GmbH. „The new central dispatch software had to be connected to the ERP/WMS system with the aim of being carrier-independent,“ explains Claudia Schneider. The solution not only scored points with a high degree of Interface flexibility and a free Carrier selection, which can be expanded at any time, but also with multi-depot capability, multi-client capability, dangerous goods modules, customisable processing masks and intuitive operability.
„Previously, we were using carrier-dependent shipping software, with the parcel shipping software only reporting back to the ERP/WMS system in the central warehouse and in one branch,“ reports Claudia Schneider. With over 1,400 consignments sent by the company every day, this led to non-transparent shipping processes. Since the HVS32 went live at the head office in June 2017 and then at the other five branches in the first half of 2018, the employees at the sister companies have been very satisfied with the new situation.
„The software runs robustly, is easy to use and automatic feedback is triggered to the ERP/WMS system when a despatch change occurs,“ explains Claudia Schneider. „The software provides a significant degree of Transparency, thereby enables a Simple tracking and saves work steps and errors through automation. Overall, the software has enabled us to reduce our administrative processing time for shipping by a remarkable 90 per cent.“ Dispatch tracking is now possible completely and easily from the ERP/WMS system of Schrauben-Jäger or Werkzeug-Jäger for sales.

New hardware for accurate article master data
The optimised logistics processes are rounded off by the introduction of further hardware solutions from Heidler, the CartonCube and the ProductCube LightGrid. In March 2018, the technology was also integrated with a full interface connection to the ERP/WMS for recording the weight and volume data of items in the central warehouse goods receipt of the sister companies. The ProductCube LightGrid supports a semi-automatic measurement of the object to be measured, regardless of its shape. Exact determination of dimensions in just a few seconds. The solution then transfers dimension data directly to the MRP or dispatch software.

The CartonCube is a cost-saving and more precise alternative to the Measurement of parcels in use at Schrauben-Jäger. Three laser distance sensors are used to automatically determine the length, width and height and the corresponding weight. Every day, around 150 items are measured at Schrauben-Jäger and around 100 at Werkzeug-Jäger.
The exact article master data is not only required for warehouse management and order picking, but also for precise freight calculation, the determination of storage and later freight space and for the selection of the correct packaging material. Above all, however, you need sound master data, to make processes more efficient.
