Elried Markierungssysteme GmbH has been a reliable provider of industrial labelling for over 50 years: from product and packaging labelling to marking and export labelling. Founded at almost the same time, edding AG is one of the world's best-known companies in the field of labelling almost all surfaces.
In order to significantly accelerate the further development of and research into new solutions, edding AG founded the subsidiary edding Tech Solutions. Since then, the young start-up has been working intensively on pioneering digital printing and labelling technologies. The first result was recently presented together with Elried, a compact printer series that sets new standards in industrial labelling.

The highly integrated printer system for easy installation in new and existing production systems is available as a Complete package supplied with all the necessary accessories. Thanks to numerous inputs and outputs, the Compact Printer can communicate with upstream and downstream machines as required and Fully integrated into existing networks can be realised. This enables both an increase in production efficiency, the elimination of miscoding and, ultimately, entry into the Industry 4.0 era.

edding portable 12: Smart mobile printer
The flexible compact printer enables the redefinition of internal production and logistics processes. Equipped with the functionalities of the edding inline 12, supplemented by a positioning laser and an industrial rechargeable battery, the innovative printer system is the ideal solution for the mobile application away from the production line. This means that barcodes, data matrix codes, texts and logos can be easily applied anywhere in high-resolution 600 dpi quality.
The cartridge system enables a quick colour change within seconds, while the original Metabo LIHD battery provides power for up to six hours. This is complemented by intelligent communication technology that allows the data for coding to be captured from any data source or simply use a barcode scanner to generate the print text[/infotext].
Development, target group, advantages in practice

pj: Mr Hofberger, you speak at the presentation of the new Compact Printer series from a Revolution in industrial labelling and emphasise in this context, that never before has such a wide range of innovations been installed in such a compact housing. What is special about in-line 12 and portable 12?
Bastian Hofberger: Until now, all manufacturers have only differentiated between large, expensive CIJ printing systems and simple, cartridge-based TIJ systems. The new edding compact printers, on the other hand, are designed to do just that, the highest functional diversity of an industrial printing system across all technologies The company is able to supply a wide range of products - from automatic printing of data matrix codes on car tyres to high-tech applications such as consumer goods printed with invisible UV ink.
Thanks to the comparatively low cost price of €3,500, the printer systems are equally attractive for both simple and more complex applications. While the edding in-line 12 is exactly the right choice for permanent installation on the production line, the edding portable 12 is the perfect tool for flexible coding on company premises.
pj: How did the collaboration with the ink manufacturer edding come about?
Hannes Behacker: Jeder kennt edding als den Spezialisten, wenn es um Stifte, Text- bzw. Permanentmarker oder Tintenprodukte, Farbsprays und Nagellack geht. Was jedoch kaum jemand weiß: In den letzten Jahren hat edding viel Geld in den Ausbau neuer Geschäftsfelder gesteckt. Im Fokus stehen dabei hoch innovative Produkte, die im Bereich der industriellen Markierung neue Standards setzen sollen.
Eher zufällig ergaben sich in diesem Zusammenhang die ersten Kooperationsgespräche zwischen edding und Elried im Rahmen einer Fachmesse, als ein edding-Mitarbeiter auf die innovativen Hand-Inkjet-Systeme von Elried aufmerksam wurde. Es folgten ein angeregter kreativer Austausch und unzählige Stunden intensiver Verhandlungen, bis man sich über die zukünftige Zusammenarbeit und eine gemeinsame Agenda einig wurde. Am Ende lautete das hoch gesteckte Ziel: die industrielle Kennzeichnung mithilfe innovativer Produkte gehörig aufzumischen. Und wie es sich für zwei Familienunternehmen nun einmal gehört, wurde das alles mit einem einfachen Handschlag besiegelt, noch bevor die Tinte auf dem Vertragspapier überhaupt trocknen konnte.
pj: … und welche Komponenten steuerte jeder Partner bei?
Bastian Hofberger: Aufgrund unserer langjährigen Erfahrung als Entwicklungspartner für industrielle Inkjet-Systeme sowie die Kenntnis über die aus der Praxis komplexen Aufgabenstellungen und Herausforderungen haben wir den Bereich der technischen Entwicklung verantwortet. Aber auch die Experten von edding konnten bei der Entwicklung neuer Druckerlösungen höchst wertvollen Input beisteuern und übernahmen insbesondere im Bereich der Tintenproduktion den Lead. Ausgangspunkt für die neu entwickelten Lösungen waren letztendlich kreative Ideen, die sich immer wieder aus der engen Zusammenarbeit mit den eigentlichen Anwendern ergaben.
pj: Bei welcher Zielgruppe wollen Sie punkten?
Hannes Behacker: Generell sind unsere Kompaktdrucker in den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen einsetzbar. Von der Lebensmittel- und Getränkeindustrie über den Logistik- und Transportbereich bis hin zu Automotive und Industrie. Punkten können wir somit vor allem bei den kleinen und mittleren Betrieben mit der Einfachheit der Handhabung sowie bei Großkonzernen mit den einzigartigen Kommunikationsfähigkeiten. Dabei können die Druckersysteme mit SNMP vollständig in den globalen Maschinenpark integriert werden.
pj: Welche Vorteile ergeben sich gegenüber herkömmlichen Lösungen?
Bastian Hofberger: Zuallererst sind die Systeme so einfach zu bedienen, dass man auf einen Techniker im Grunde genommen verzichten kann. Denn im Gegensatz zu klassischen Inkjet-Systemen bieten die neuen Kompaktdrucker maximale Wartungsfreiheit. Insbesondere auch, weil diese unter höchsten Qualitätsansprüchen komplett in Deutschland gefertigt werden.
Hannes Behacker: Hinzu kommt unser edding-Know-how, dank dem auf nahezu allen Oberflächen wie auch auf Glas, Karton, Kunststoff und Metall gedruckt werden kann, Gleichzeitig denken die intelligenten Druckersysteme für den Anwender mit, indem sie gemeinsam mit dem Nutzer anhand einfacher, grafischer Wizards nach den optimalen Einstellungen suchen. Auf Wunsch erfolgt die Nachbestellung von neuen Tintenkartuschen selbstständig, damit das Verbrauchsmaterial niemals ausgeht und die Anwender bei der täglichen Arbeit maßgeblich entlastet werden.
