At Interpack 2026, the Multivac Group demonstrated how efficiency, automation, digitalisation and sustainability can be combined into holistic packaging solutions. In Düsseldorf, the company presented networked solutions specifically tailored to the needs of the food and healthcare industries.
Christian Traumann, CEO of the Multivac Group, emphasised the importance of automation and digitalisation as growth drivers at the press conference. Despite a challenging economic environment with geopolitical uncertainties, the company was able to increase its revenue by 5.3 percent to 1.59 billion euros. „Against the backdrop of rising energy prices, labour shortages and fragile supply chains, we see automation and digitalisation solutions as crucial growth drivers for our customers – and for us,“ explained Traumann.
Investments in a new production plant at the Wolfertschwenden headquarters underscore this approach. At around €100 million, it is the largest future investment in the company's history. The Smart Factory is intended to sustainably develop and further automate production and spare parts logistics.
Connected Solutions for the Food Industry
In the field of food packaging, Multivac is introducing the Slicing Line NextGen, a compact line for slicing and packaging sliced products. This solution is characterised by minimal space requirements, consistent yield monitoring, and maximum hygiene. „Our customers are under increasing pressure to make processes more efficient, flexible, and safer at the same time,“ said Dr. Tobias Richter, CSO of the Multivac Group. With intelligently networked solutions, Multivac supports companies in reducing manual interventions and creating data-based transparency across the entire production process.
Furthermore, the company demonstrated the degree of flexibility now possible with the use of artificial intelligence with an AI-supported traysealer line. „Our AI-supported solution allows different products to be processed in parallel from multiple supply streams and existing capacities to be optimally utilised. Intelligent product identification combined with smart print & apply labelling ensures consistent process reliability. This means the line not only enables maximum flexibility but also a measurable productivity and efficiency advantage,“ said Dr. Tobias Richter.
Smart packaging as a holistic lifecycle approach
A key focus of the trade fair presentation is the topic of Smart Packaging. Multivac takes a holistic lifecycle approach, ranging from packaging consultation and the implementation of forward-looking concepts for a circular economy and material reduction to digital solutions.
„Regulatory requirements such as the PPWR are fundamentally changing the packaging industry. That's why we see smart packaging as a comprehensive approach – from packaging consulting and material selection to machine capability and processes,“ summarised Dr. Tobias Richter.
# Advances in Health Packaging
Another focus of the trade fair presence was health packaging. Multivac demonstrated how future-proof packaging solutions for the medical and pharmaceutical industries can be implemented. For example, with the R 245 deep-drawing packaging machine, which processes recyclable flexible film for the packaging of heart catheters, meeting today's PPWR requirements. The interactive pharmaceutical line with the pixelSEAL contour sealing system also demonstrates the highest process security for sensitive pharmaceuticals.
