Optima Life Science will be showcasing a production system for manufacturing, assembling and packaging transdermal patches (TDS) and oral dispersible films (ODF) at ICE USA 2019 from 9 to 11 April 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky. This will also mark the launch of the COMEDCO alliance that Optima has formed with the company Coatema.

COMEDCO is also the name of the production system based on the ICE USA will be on display. The system can be used for applications ranging from laboratory scale to series production of TDS and ODF films. During the manufacturing process of TDS and ODF products, active ingredients are applied to a carrier film and dried. The carrier film is then cut and wound onto individual rolls. These rolls are transferred to a web-processing process. Depending on the product, existing carrier films are removed, new carrier films are applied and films are cut to defined sizes, separated and packaged.

Optima and Coatema combine expertise in coating and converting

Optima Life Sciences and Coatema have combined their expertise in the COMEDCO alliance in the areas of Coating and Converting and in service. The alliance also sees itself as a globally active development and technology partner for pharmaceutical companies in order to efficiently bring TDS and ODF products to the market. Tests in its own laboratory and many years of expertise flow into the selection of the best film carrier materials and suitable application systems, for example.

Other Optima converting systems will also be on display at the Optima stand. These include, for example, manufacturing and Packaging systems for modern wound, surgical and allergy test products. High-performance systems with an output of up to 1,200 units per minute are available for this purpose. Packaging machines for Four-side sealed bag such as the Optima 4SS complement Optima Life Science's range of converting products.
