The winners of the „Pro Carton Young Designers Award“, one of Europe's leading annual competitions for young talent in packaging design, have been announced. The award ceremony took place on 25 September 2019 at FachPack at the joint stand of both associations. The award was organised for Germany for the second time by Pro Carton in cooperation with the Fachverband Faltschachtel-Industrie e. V. (FFI).
Creative, innovative packaging solutions made from folding boxboard were honoured. This year's submissions were so convincing that the expert jury immediately awarded two winning teams has chosen: Both the team „Le Paonneau“ Sonja Herr, Liane Jehle and Philipp Tretter, as well as the team „Ploffie“ Martin Wunner, So Hyeon Kim and Nguyet Nguyen impressed the jury with their submissions. Both teams are students of the degree programme Packaging Development Management, M.Sc. at the Stuttgart Media University.

„Le Paonneau“ (pictured above), a scissor packaging, impressed with its Unique unpacking experience, by using the function of a pair of scissors as the opening mechanism. The unpacking experience is enhanced by the contrast between the minimalist, white exterior and the illustrative, peacock-design interior of the box.

„Ploffie“, a cardboard packaging solution for nuts, scored highly with its innovative Opening mechanism and his eye-catching design. When opening the packaging for the first time, a perforated flap, which serves as a tamper-proof closure, and the top part of the integrated bag must be torn off. The sides of the narrow end of the box can then be pressed together so that the packaging opens and closes very easily with a popping sound. Once opened, the packaging serves as a dispenser in several colour and animal variants, so that children and adults alike can be inspired to eat a balanced diet.
„The packaging design students have once again demonstrated their creativity and innovative strength. We would like to thank all participants for their outstanding submissions. The many convincing solutions did not make it easy for our expert jury to make a decision,“ said a delighted Christian Schiffers, Managing Director of the FFI.
The winning teams can look forward to a week's work experience at FFI members WS Quack + Fischer, a renowned folding carton manufacturer in Viersen, and at Mayr-Melnhof Karton Gesellschaft, a cartonboard manufacturer in Neuss.
