At Sauer GmbH & Co. KG, Neustadt bei Coburg, two new MSK stretch bonnets pack pallets of plastic bottles hygienically and stably for storage and transport. The modern technology enables the use of the thinnest films and thus offers highly efficient packaging for the palletised plastic products.

To ensure that the palletised empty plastic bottles are returned to the Sauer Hygienic are packaged, the pallet packaging must provide secure protection against moisture, dirt and insects. The stretch wrap packaging used in the past could not fully fulfil this requirement. The new ones installed in spring 2014 and 2015 MSK systems now pack the pallets with a tight stretch bonnet, that reliably protects the products.

At the bottom of the pallet, a bottom film in combination with the MSK collar stretch process for reliable climate-tightness of the packaged goods. The machines work without the use of hydraulics above the product and therefore offer correspondingly hygienic handling throughout the entire packaging process.

Savings through film thickness

When choosing stretch packaging for hollow plastic bodies, their sensitivity to pressure is a particularly critical factor. The nature of the sub-packaging also plays a decisive role in choosing the most efficient packaging solution.

To optimise the Optimum film thickness with sufficient load stability for Sauer's products, extensive packaging tests were carried out with different types and thicknesses of film in MSK's customer technology centre. The practical results are impressive: a pallet height of up to 2.30 metres, the thinnest possible film thickness of 35 µm and an output of 120 Euro pallets per hour.

„We would like to thank MSK for their expert and competent advice and support during the changeover from stretch wrappers to bonnet stretchers. MSK provided excellent support and service, so that the critical changeover phase ran smoothly, safely and to our satisfaction at all times,“ emphasises the project manager. Benno Sauer out.

Technological advantage Tensiontech

By utilising MSK patents such as the film opening system, the stretching corners, the film gathering process, the unique coordinate stretching process and the patented vertical stretch, MSK stretch bonnet machines enable the use of thinner films. Precisely fitting bonnet assembly, film gathering and the bonnet cover ensure that the film is stretched evenly and gently.

The lowerable machine head and simple plug-in connections enable easy maintenance and quick welding bar changes at an ergonomic working height. „Further potential savings in energy and maintenance result from the compact design with counterweights and maintenance-free toothed belt technology,“ adds Uwe Jonkmanns.

Benno Sauer confirms: „The systems are proving to be excellent during operation. Due to the considerable advantages in terms of hygiene, load stability, output per hour and energy savings, we decided to convert all of our systems. We will receive the third MSK bonnet stretcher at the end of the year. We are looking forward to future projects and can only recommend MSK.“

Today, our customer packs its products with a Pallet height up to 2.30 m and the thinnest possible film thickness of 35 µm with an output of 120 Euro pallets per hour, with consistently optimum and stable packaging results,“ emphasises Uwe Jonkmanns, Sales & Marketing Director at MSK.

Intuitive operating software

The control software supplied to Sauer MSK-EMSY-Basic considerably simplifies the operation of the packaging machines. The graphical operating system specially developed for MSK machines is equipped with an intuitive interface. A touch panel with clear 3D graphics and animations facilitates operator guidance in automatic and manual mode and supports troubleshooting. The software includes numerous statistical analyses and tools for service and maintenance. Specialists are available around the clock for rapid assistance via remote maintenance. The system can be expanded into a customised HMI by retrofitting various upgrades.

Customised packaging tests

In order to recommend the optimum packaging process for a specific product, MSK works with its customers to carry out comparative tests with transport simulations in its own customer technology centre. This is the most reliable way to provide fact-based and product-specific advice.
