KHS: Focus on the circular economy

KHS' trade fair appearance at K 2019 will focus on a new bottle concept that offers high product protection and a longer shelf life, especially for sensitive beverages.

The demand from the food and beverage industry for packaging solutions that support efficient production processes and at the same time contribute to protecting the environment while offering a high level of product protection is constantly growing, emphasises Kai Acker, CEO of Dortmund-based filling and packaging systems specialist KHS.

„We already offer pioneering concepts for this today. Our comprehensive PET portfolio covers the entire value chain, from innovative bottle design to energy- and resource-efficient production. We have our finger on the pulse of the times with our topics,“ says Kai Acker. „We support the switch to Environmentally friendly and resource-saving packaging. Our portfolio offers concrete solutions to further promote the idea of sustainability.“

Concept for longer durability

A new bottle concept is at the centre of the trade fair presentation. KHS is thus pursuing its strategy of Reduction, recycling and reuse consistently. In addition, a Partnership with an environmental service provider closed. Compared to conventional PET containers, the new concept offers High product protection and longer shelf life especially for sensitive drinks. The bottle is also fully recyclable and conserves additional resources.

„Our aim was to design a container with the smallest possible ecological footprint. In doing so, we are consistently developing the circular economy approach further,“ explains Kai Acker.

KHS uses line solutions for PET processing to show how the entire process chain can be designed efficiently and sustainably. In addition to the processing of recycled plastic, the Energy and resource efficiency from the stretch blow moulding process to palletising in the foreground.

With the Bottles & ShapesTM programme KHS is also driving forward its developments along the entire production chain. Initial ideas, drawings and 3D animations for the desired bottle are realised here, as well as prototypes, individual sample bottles and durable blow moulds. The aim is to reduce the amount of material used and ultimately to protect the environment.
