Palcut A/S, specialist in automatic palletising, is now launching Liquim®, a product that will change the way palletising is done. Liquim has a liquid-tight impregnation, a high friction factor and is made from recycled paper. It protects palletised goods from liquids, eliminates the need for corrugated cardboard and PE liners and contributes to an environmentally conscious business approach. At the same time, Liquim stabilises the goods during transport, prevents the pallets from tipping over and can reduce paper consumption by up to 40 %.

After a four-year development phase introduces Palcut A/S Liquid-tight anti-slip paper with unique properties, which is geared towards industries in which Fully automatic palletising systems are used. Many manufacturers are faced with the problem of condensation forming on palletised goods or moisture seeping up through the base of the pallet. This can lead to damaged goods and unstable pallets.

"Liquim is groundbreaking because it is a slip-resistant paper that is impermeable to liquids. It cannot disintegrate and ensures that the pallets do not collapse in the warehouse, during transport or in the shop. The functional quality of corrugated cardboard, on the other hand, can deteriorate, making the pallets unstable," says Lars Østergaard Jonasen, Product Manager at Palcut A/S.

Liquim is also Environmentally friendlyIt is made from FSC®-certified recycled paper and reduces paper consumption by up to 40 % by replacing the intermediate layers of corrugated cardboard. "It's just like a Russian Matryoshka doll. Liquim is Liquid-tight, environmentally friendly and has a high friction factor. It offers three things in one. We are proud to bring a sustainable total solution to the market that can reduce the consumption of packaging materials and has been developed for fully automated palletising lines", leads Lars Østergaard Jonasen continues to expand.

High-quality coating repels liquids

The secret behind Liquim is a Patented coatingthat are in favour of a Extremely high friction and at the same time protects against moisture, condensation and liquid leaks. The coating repels water, oil and other liquids. According to the COBB test, which measures how much water the paper absorbs within 60 seconds, the result is excellent: Only 3 grams of water are absorbed per square metre of paper - compared to 45 grams for corrugated cardboard.

Liquim has Two limit values for friction - so for when the goods start to slip. These are 50 and 75 degrees respectively if the goods have already been on the paper for some time. For corrugated cardboard that has not been moulded, these values are 25 and 35 degrees.

Up to 40 % less paper consumption

The test also shows that the Friction from Liquim is only released gradually. This is an advantage when goods such as bottles have to be 'pushed into position' after a robot has placed them on the pallet and the anti-slip paper. As soon as they are in position, Liquim effectively binds them to the surface.

Liquim is FSC® Recycled-certified, which means that only FSC® recycled paper is used. There are three types of Liquim anti-slip paper - 150, 220 and 300 grams - and it is available in rolls of up to 3,000 metres.

They are therefore supplied in rolls, as Liquim Part of a complete solution is where a Palcut machine cuts the paper to the correct size and can be fully integrated into the manufacturer's palletising line.

"Liquim replaces the intermediate layers of corrugated cardboard and can reduce paper consumption by up to 40 %, while creating a much more stable pallet structure." Lars Østergaard Jonasen, Product Manager at Palcut A/S.

PE base sheets are now superfluous

In the area of chemical products and foodstuffs such as sugar and flour, moisture can penetrate through the bottom of the pallet and get into the goods. Here Liquim replaces other polyethylene base sheets (PE), which is the Environmental impact reduced. Compared to Palcut's own PE liner, Liquim offers just as good protection against liquids and moisture, but with twice the anti-slip effect. This stabilises the pallet regardless of whether the goods are packed in boxes or large bags.

"The target group for Liquim is primarily industries where there are problems with moisture, including the food and food ingredients industry, where PE base sheets are used today. Liquim stops moisture seeping up through the base," explains Lars Østergaard Jonasen, Product Manager at Palcut A/S.

Carefully checked, approved and ready for sale

Palcut has also developed the Bottlers of drinking water and the food industry The focus here has been on the use of intermediate layers that do not dissolve due to water or condensation and at the same time block the penetration of moisture.

"Liquim is a huge step forward in the field of anti-slip paper. It has been carefully tested by independent institutions and by a major manufacturer, who believes that Liquim could reduce the use of interlayers by more than a third. Our high expectations are therefore justified," says Rudi Pedersen, Managing Director of Palcut A/S.
