Frisch-Geflügel Claus is the first German poultry supplier to launch fresh meat in environmentally friendly Halopack protective gas packaging from Schumacher Packaging.
The company is thus replacing the widely used plastic tray in the 190 size with a depth of 50 mm and reduces the amount of plastic in packaging by around 80 per cent. The new hybrid packaging consists of a fully recyclable cardboard box lined with a thin, gas-tight plastic film. As completely gas-tight MAP packaging, the Halopack tray is absolutely hygienic and ensures an excellent shelf life for the fresh poultry meat.
„Compared to the plastic trays that were previously common for MAP packaging, Halopack has reduced the proportion of plastic to just 20 per cent,“ reports Hendrik Schumacher, Managing Director at Schumacher Packaging. „To dispose of the packaging, consumers can simply peel off the film. The 100 per cent recyclable cardboard tray then simply goes into the waste paper and the film can go into the yellow bin.“
Also functionally superior to conventional plastic trays
Schumacher Packaging is delighted to now also be able to offer the Halopack tray in the widely used 190 size with a depth of 50 mm. After all, the improved environmental balance is just one of the advantages of the new hybrid packaging. Compared to plastic trays, it also impresses with its usage properties: it is completely Safe to freeze meat in the packaging or - in the case of convenience - the Halopack and contents in the microwave to heat.

Innovative strength connects
Even in the current situation, both companies - Claus and Schumacher Packaging - innovations and place sustainability at the centre of their business activities. So far, Claus Fresh Poultry has been using Halopack as an alternative to the widely used 190 PP tray. However, the poultry producer is already planning to switch to the sustainable hybrid packaging concept for other packaging sizes as well. This is made easier by the fact that the packaging technology for Halopacks does not need to be changed - Claus can simply seal the new packaging on its existing sealing machines. The Packaging process remains unchanged at Halopack.

„As a completely gas-tight MAP packaging, the Halopack tray ensures an excellent shelf life for perishable foods, whether poultry, meat or ready meals,“ emphasises Schumacher. „Compared to conventional trays made of PP-PE or PET, our sustainable hybrid packaging even provides a more reliable grease and moisture barrier. Halopack protects food even better from environmental influences.“
Attractive printing
The Halopack tray has no gluing points and therefore offers an optimal, continuous printing surface - inside and out. „The hybrid packaging not only combines sustainability with a high level of functionality and Very good transport properties, it can also be Use as an attractive advertising medium“, says Schumacher. „With our high-quality offset printing, the packaging is also very visually appealing to the buyer. What's more, we can always Flexible to design requirements of our customer Frisch-Geflügel Claus. Another plus point is the much more pleasant feel of the cardboard material compared to plastic. Halopack not only signals greater sustainability to customers, but also higher value.“
