How can goods be sustainably secured for transport? One method of securing goods for transport in a reliable and resource-saving way is strapping with plastic strapping.
Extreme tear resistance of the strapping is crucial for transport safety. However, as Simone Mosca, Managing Director of Mosca Ltd., which develops and produces strapping and transport securing systems, the material should also be tested in terms of its environmental friendliness. Because: „Not all plastics are the same.“
It is best if the PET strapping is made from 100 per cent recycled material. For example, this could be bottle flakes from the deposit bottle system or PET waste from the company's own production process. And for a complete cycle, the strapping must be able to be removed from the goods without leaving any residue. This Single-variety separation allows the tape material to be fed back into the recycling cycle via the Yellow Bag.
Energy efficiency when strapping with plastic strapping
Looking at the strapping process, the expert also sees potential for energy savings. For example Ultrasonic units particularly energy-efficient when sealing the strap ends, as they do not require a warm-up phase compared to classic hot wedge units in strapping machines. For less energy in the machine drive, low-wear direct drives and the use of electronics should be favoured over energy-intensive pneumatics.

And one Investment in long-lasting technologies According to Simone Mosca, this is worthwhile: „Long-lasting solutions also mean less production effort for new machines and therefore less material requirements, fewer emissions and ultimately less impact on the environment. Regular maintenance and early servicing measures can significantly extend the life cycles of strapping machines.“
