Robust plastic transport packaging for 70 inserts

Transportverpackungen aus Wellpappe können baugleich ersetzt werden

Orbis Europe develops and produces robust plastic transport packaging. In a wide range of industrial sectors, this ensures long-term cost savings and CO2-reduction. The development „PlastiCorr“ for example, can be up to Reused 70 times are used. This is a variant of normal, simple folding boxes with base and lid flaps, but made of polypropylene (PP).

Orbis analyses the supply chain of companies and develops customised packaging solutions, which can be used to move products from A to B quickly, safely and cost-effectively. As a result, attention was repeatedly drawn to processes in which corrugated cardboard transport packaging was only used once within the company or sometimes only between packaging lines and then disposed of. This is anything but resource-saving and sustainable. In addition, there are considerable costs for the companies.

According to a Study by Franklin Associates From 2015, around 1,075 billion litres of water per year were used to recycle corrugated cardboard in the USA alone. In the EU, it is calculated that around 800 billion litres of water are used each year to recycle paper and cardboard packaging. It also accounts for a large proportion of packaging waste in the EU (around 41 per cent in 2018). And more than 65 per cent of all transport packaging in Germany is made of corrugated cardboard.

This scenario was the reason for Orbis, a Reusable packaging as a sustainable and efficient alternative to cardboard packaging PlastiCorr„ was born. As with all other Orbis packaging, this is a B2B product, which is suitable for cosmetics, household products, pharmaceuticals or dry foodstuffs and is used, for example, for the transport of primary packaging, components or finished products.

Same task, same design, different material

The new PP packaging can replace corrugated cardboard boxes in all standard processes on a one-to-one basis. It can be customised to the customer's application criteria in all standard sizes. As a rule, of course, users want dimensions that correspond optimally to their pallet dimensions of 1,200 x 800 millimetres or 1,200 x 1,000 millimetres. Compatible with automated and manual processes, PlastiCorr packaging can be used without any changes to existing processes, including logistics. When stacked, goods weighing up to 15 kilograms on average can be transported in one package. Otherwise, the load limits are significantly higher. The highlight: tests have shown that with PlastiCorr packaging 70 safe rounds can be achieved.

Some production specifics have even been patented: this ensures that the flaps always return to their original position and remain 100 per cent straight: after the first and after the 70th trip. All corners are sealed and ergonomically manufactured, guaranteeing that all hygiene and ergonomic requirements are met. Joints and adhesive tabs are manufactured without any additional reinforcement, so that they can be easily removed in the event of an accident. stacked flat do not bend.

Reusable, recyclable, economical transport packaging

The fastest Return on investment (ROI) can be generated with short, closed supply chains. Although the acquisition costs are around five to seven times higher than for conventional cardboard packaging, the longer service life of around 70 uses along the supply chain results in significant long-term cost savings. A calculation can be made from customer to customer, which also includes further savings in terms of water consumption or CO2-emissions. In one application example, switching from cardboard to PlastiCorr resulted in 89 per cent less water consumption, 74 per cent less cumulative energy consumption and 61 per cent less solid waste.

The packaging also scores highly in terms of cleanliness and efficiency for the user, reduced production downtime, increased safety and improved handling. Thanks to the plastic design, the boxes are water-repellent and retain their functionality even in damp conditions with. Dust is also eliminated. Orbis uses innovative manufacturing processes to produce large load carriers, pallets and containers from recycled and recyclable materials in Europe and the USA. PlastiCorr packaging can also be recycled into 100 per cent recycling, The material is currently used for the production of pallets, for example.
